Sweet and Sour Chicken

Sweet and Sour Chicken - Crispy, lightly breaded chicken topped with a delicious, sweet and sour sauce that rivals most take-out. This delicious sauce also goes great in shrimp, pork or vegetable-based Asian dishes and even as a dipping sauce for your favorite appetizer!

  • 1 ½ C Water Separated
  • ½ C Brown Sugar
  • ¼ C Rice Vinegar
  • 3-4 TBL Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Soy Sauce


  • 2-3 Chicken Breasts
  • ¾ C Flour
  • 3 TBL Corn Starch Separated
  • ¼ - ½ C Oil


  1. In a large ziplock bag, combine 3/4 C flour and 2 TBL cornstarch.
  2. Chop chicken breasts into small chunks and throw into ziplock bag of flour mixture and shake-to-coat. Set Aside.
  3. In a small dish, mix ¼ C cold water and 1 TBL cornstarch. Set aside.
  4. Next, in a medium sauce pan, combine 1 ¼ C Water, brown sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce and ketchup one ingredient at a time and whisking well between each addition. Bring to a simmer for about 2-3 minutes, stirring often. Whisk the water/cornstarch mixture into the sauce. Let simmer for about a minute until sauce begins to thicken and turn heat to low. Set Aside.
  5. In a large skillet, heat oil and carefully add the chicken to the pan, frying until cooked completely through and golden brown on the outside.
  6. Smother chicken with sauce or serve sauce on the side. Serve with rice, noodles or vegetables
